Almost Reading

Uly read his first two words on Saturday (October 11, 2008) night.  He sounded out the words "Puff" and "Toot".  Then he started being silly and we didn't get much further than some giggles and tickles.  But, he actually sounded them out and understood how to push the sounds together to form a word.  This was a milestone.   We will be working on other words now.  Yay, Uly!!!

Here is a photo of him today sporting his new backyard hair cut.  I think I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself.  :)  Read the next sentence sarcastically:  Olea gives me one lesson an suddenly I'm open for business cutting hair.  Uly likes it.  That's the most important thing.  :)

Those first steps in reading really are monumental. I found myself asking my boys over and over, "Can you read THAT? How bout THAT?" Congrats. And I like the haircut!

I can't even get over how cute that boy is! Jessica, you have the cutest kids ever - and I'm not being biased because they are my nephews! Give Uly a big hug for me for being so smart!!

That is super exciting! I absolutely love when the kids start to read. If you can read, you can learn ANYTHING! There is a great book out that has you use the Book of Mormon to teach your child to read. Check it out...I actually found the book in pdf form online at http://www.ldsliteracy.org/docs/TeachingYourChildrenToReadUsingTheBookOfMormon-Unit1.pdf
Good luck!

Man, he is adorable! I am also a "home cutter" for Cole but Ted isn't quite brave enough to let me at him with my shears. Chicken! Tell him "great job" from Gretchen on reading. It is such an important and exciting skill for them. Both my kids are bookworms just like me.

He looks so old with that haircut! when did Uly get so big as to read words and have a big-boy haircut? Where is our little baby??? Luckily, he's a super cute almost 5 year old!
