The Business of Being Born

If you are pregnant, going to be pregnant, know someone who is pregnant, know someone who is going to be pregnant, or just generally like babies (do you get the picture?), watch this movie.

I feel like I'm a pretty educated person when it comes to childbirth. I am pro-natural childbirth, not because it's some kooky thing to do but because I believe it is the very best way to bring a baby into this world. I am a large proponent of getting really educated on the birth process. I believe it is best to understand what is happening to your body, the babies body, the why's and the how's. If you are looking for a really comprehensive childbirth class, I can not stress enough how confident and comfortable with the process after taking Bradley Childbirth classes you will be. After our classes I was completely confident with my birthing abilities and my husband's ability to assist me. In fact I felt and still do feel, that if Ben had to deliver my baby with out the aid of a birthing professional I and the baby would be totally safe and fine.

The birth of my last baby was so empowering. It would be my dream that every woman would get to feel that high, that strength and that love. It was truly awesome.

My first two births were good experiences but they both pale in comparison to how great it was to birth my third baby in the comfort, quiet and love of my own home. After that experience I will never willingly go back to an OB/GYN to deliver any of my babies. After that experience I can't imagine giving birth any other way. My only regret is that I didn't make the decision to have a home birth for my first two babies.

So, if you would like to know more about why I think this is the best decision for a healthy pregnant woman, check out this DVD. If you have a Netflix subscription, you can watch it directly on your computer - it is in the Browse Instant section.

Watch it. Make your own decision.

I will definitly check that out on my Netflix subscription. By the way, from the way you are talking, there are more babies in the future? Yay! Because I must say, you and my brother make the cutest and sweetest babies. I miss them soo much!

I may have one more baby but not in the next few months. It is just a subject that I feel strongly about. :)

I had my last two babies with a midwife, not at home though, Steve wouldn't let me. I have to say I completely agree about natural childbirth!! It is much better for Mom and baby.

The birth of my 3rd babe was the most spiritual, natural, calm and euphoric experience. I delivered baby Aaron on my bed in the comfort of my home. My midwives treated us so beautifully. I feel birth and death are 2 of the most spiritual moments in life. The ideal that these are procedures that require the bombardment of sterile professionals and their subsequent environments, and tests, and tools, seriously intrude on the natural spirt and empowerment to be had my mom (not to mention physical and mental health). We need more advocacy regarding birthing methods and choices. I didn't know what a midwife or birth center was until my 3rd pregnancy.
Women are amazing and so are their bodies and what they can do! I was so moved by this moment in my life, I want to be that kind of help for other families. Maybe I can deliver your next curly-headed baby, Jess! Luv ya!

It's Hannah! I'm studying baby development in my psych class right now and have been reading about cool stuff like that. I'm totally going to check it out! What are your thoughts on water birthing? I watched a few filmed ones in class and it was so beautiful and peaceful and personal. No doctors hovering, noone taking your baby away from you after, and you get to float and be in a warm bath the whole time! I'd love your opinion. =)
